Circuits and system reliability

Reliability of power electronics is covered in PEIC by the Electronic CAD & Reliability Group. This research group works in the Department of Control and Computer Engineering (DAUIN) of Politecnico di Torino. Its mission is to support the designer of electronic circuits and systems, providing techniques, tools, and services.

The group contributes to PEIC activities with skills in the areas of:

  • Fault modeling of defects in analog and digital circuits and systems, including PCBs, with emphasis on the identification of the most suitable metrics to grade test procedures.
  • Reliability analysis (evaluation of fault occurrence probabilities, FMEA, Fault Trees, fault injection, reliability standards). The group owns special expertise in functional safety and related standards, such as ISO 26262 and in the design of resilient reconfigurable systems.
  • Hardening solutions at the different levels (system, circuit, technology)
  • Test of electronic circuits and systems, both at the end of manufacturing and in-field. The group own special expertise in Design for Testability solutions of logic, memory and analog cores (including standards such as IEEE 1149, IEEE 1500, IEEE 1687), functional test of MCUs, GPUs and SoCs (including the development and grading of Software Test libraries for in-field test) and ATE architectures (also for PCBs, MEMS and for Burn-In test).

The group is currently composed of 9 faculties (professors and researchers) and about 12 young researchers (post-doc, PhD students, visitors). Contact person: prof. Matteo Sonza Reorda.

The group owns a long expertise in relationships with industry, university, research centers worldwide and is involved in several European projects, for both research and cooperation, as well as in several research and consultancy activities with companies.
